What does a doula do…
She will provide continuous emotional, educational, and physical support throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum care. Most doula-client relationships begin a few months before the baby is due, allowing time to build trust, understanding, and comfort.
During this time, the doula and client develop a supportive relationship where the mother is encouraged to ask questions, express concerns, and actively participate in creating a personalized birth plan. Doulas may also provide guidance on comfort techniques that can help reduce stress and promote a more positive birth experience.
Throughout pregnancy, doulas remain available for support, often by phone, to answer questions and help address concerns as they arise. While doulas do not provide medical care or replace healthcare providers, they are knowledgeable about the childbirth process and can help clients better understand medical procedures, options, and potential interventions.
By offering education, reassurance, and advocacy, doulas help families feel more informed, confident, and empowered as they prepare for labor and delivery.
